July 15,2009, West Coast, US; From the company renown for superior and exceptional sound quality, Mark Levinson has recently released the No. 512 – an electronic machine that reproduces stereo Super Audio CD (SACD) tracks and is designed to be the ultimate disc player. The No. 512 is designed to be this generation’s primary disc player and connects directly to one or more amplifiers or to a preamplifier in a multisource system. Music fanatics and home audio system enthusiasts will be greatly pleased with the amplifier and all of its special features and functions. The No. 512 will be available at Orange County’s Digital Ear this November, just in time for this holiday season.
What makes a Super Audio CD, well super? The SACD encodes audio on in the Direct Stream Digital™ (DSD) format with a bit rate that is four times larger than a regular CD. To be exact, SACDs encode audio with a 2.8224MHz sampling frequency and a one-bit word length, compared to a 44.1kHz sampling rate and 16-bit word length offered by an ordinary CD. This extra data also allows for a SACD to achieve considerably greater dynamic range and wider frequency response—not to mention the capability of delivering the dynamic range of live music.
The No. 512 is also the first dedicated high-resolution playback source device under the Mark Levinson name and is designed to pull out the very best sound from your existing music collection. What else makes the No.512 stand out from its competitors: An anti-jitter technique which employs a memory buffer between the transport and Direct Digital Synthesis (DDS) circuit; an extremely high quality digital-to-analog conversion process that uses two converters instead of one; and two separate power supplies with custom-designed toroidal transformers.
