As a company Burmester Audiosysteme operates in the realm of creative tension between traditional craftsmanship and cutting-edge technology. In research and development as well as quality control we use the newest computers and most advanced measuring techniques.
In the final assembly by hand and in our demand for highest reliability and absolute musical fidelity of our products, however, we are decidedly old-fashioned. The last and most important test that every piece of equipment has to pass is in our listening studio. There, we know only one measuring device: our critical ears! If this strong emphasis of quality craftsmanship may sound like yesterdays news we can assure you: our technical means and design goals are definitely tomorrows news.
We buy our electronic components from the best suppliers in the world. Before putting them into our equipment we measure and select every part according to very tight tolerances. The assembly is followed by an extended burn-in phase and more tests. Before being shipped every piece of equipment has to pass a stringent final quality control and listening test.
Power amplifiers, for example, have to pass almost 300 measuring tests before we give them our "Made by Burmester" seal of approval. All test protocols are carefully kept as reference in case a customer sends a component back for an upgrade or a repair. In such cases the same standards for quality control and listening test apply as they do for factory-new products. Every factory upgrade automatically carries a new warranty.

The 011 preamplifier combines the pioneering innovations of the 877 with the design and ergonomics of a preamplifier ready to meet any future challenge. Our top design goal has been to endow the very complex and compact 011 with the same uncompromising sonic qualities that have made the 808 MK5 the unquestioned leader on the world market today.
The 011 spellbinds the listener after only a few bars: it combines the warm natural musicality of the 808MK5 with simple, user-friendly operation. With its clean aesthetic appearance and simple elegance it has the makings of a classic. Its sound quality is unequalled.
Product description and technical specifications:
- Pure class-A preamplifier based on Burmester's proprietary X-Amp technology. New: The X-Amp circuitry for the inputs as well as outputs is located on separate piggyback modules.
- Construction of all modules is discreet which means their components have been carefully selected and paired using a special process.
- Like all Burmester components the 011 preamp is completely DC-coupled, i.e. there are no capacitors in the signal path.
- Of course, the circuitry of the 011 is balanced throughout. It has seven balanced inputs.
- Uncompromising dual-mono construction: the circuit boards for left and right channel are stacked on top of each other.
- These circuit boards are arranged to achieve the shortest possible signal path and to obviate internal wire connections to the input and output terminals.
- The no-compromise IR remote control has been completely adopted from the 808 MK5. Volume is set in 60 logarithmically tuned steps by a passive R-2R network consisting of precision resistors and gold-plated Reed relays. Only this extreme sophistication can guarantee the desired 100 per cent equal channel balance. Switching between signal sources is also done by relays directly at the inputs.
- The 011 comes standard with a phono module the sound of which is closely related to that of the MC2 module of the 808 MK5.
- The channels of the phono section of the 011 are separated and located on the main circuit boards for left and right channel.
- Like the MC2 of the 808 MK5, signal processing of the 011 phono module is balanced throughout and completely DC-coupled with discreet construction of the sophisticated circuitry.
- The equalization characteristic of the phono module can be switched from MC RIAA to shellac.
- All presets of the phono module can be done with a setup function. For example, phono loads can easily be changed to eight different settings (10, 15, 50, 68, 120, 180, 390, 1000W).
- The 011 can easily be integrated into a home theater system by routing the signal through the preamp in "surround" mode. A home theater system will be available from Burmester sometime in 2001.
- With the view towards home theater systems the 011 has been prepped for the new Burmester link which will support complex remote control applications in large systems.
- The power supply of the 011 is a completely new design. The electrical supply of the analog audio stages has been separated from the digitally controlled displays. As a consequence, the 011 sports two separate transformers custom-made to Burmester's specifications.
- Analog power supply: 44VA transformer with overall 100.000 µF filtering.
- Digital power supply: 33VA transformer with overall 20.000 µF filtering.
- Operating modes are indicated on a high-quality dot-matrix display and are easily legible even from some distance away.
- Like on all recent Burmester components, the display can be switched off.
- The output can be raised with the setup function by 6 dB (for example when using power amps of other manufacturers).
- Input sensitivity of the inputs can be adjusted in a range of ±6 dB. This preset can also be programmed with the setup function.
- The wake-up volume that kicks in when the 011 is switched on can be preset in steps from 01 to 20.
- The 011 has a remote facility to switch Burmester power amps on and off.
- The housing of the 011 is 340 mm deep and thus fits with all other Top Line components.
- The 011 sports the same vibration-damping feet with carbon fiber springs as the 979.

Surround Processors 057 NEW
The 057 Surround Processor is the newest multichannel component by Burmester Audiosystems. Our goal in designing this unit was to create a processor which is uncompromisingly geared towards delivering the highest sound quality and, at the same time, is easy to use. It has all the pedigree from its big brother, the 007, but for a more affordable price.
In order to achieve these goals, we employed a number of technical features in the 057 which have already been well proven in other Burmester components, such as:
- Supplied with Dolby Digital EX™, DTS ES™, DTS Neo:6™, and Dolby Prologic II™ as standard
- Fully balanced amplification
